ECTARC will facilitate the meeting and initiate positive discussion amongst the group to explore how individual services meet the principles. Participants are asked to bring a copy of the NCAC Quality Practices Guide.
ANAPHYLAXIS TRAINING This workshop presented by St John’s Ambulance provides the participants with the knowledge and skills to recognise and manage an anaphylactic reaction including the use of the Epipen. An excellent professional development opportunity for any early childhood staff member who cares for, or may come in contact with, children or staff who have severe allergic reactions. Topics covered include:

ART-RAGEOUS This light and relaxing workshop is designed for all early childhood educators to reexamine their perceptions and practices when designing environments and experiences in the creative arts areas. We will discuss current methods used and how we can link these to an interest based curriculum. It aims to accentuate children as powerful imagemakers, and see our role as early childhood educators in supporting, guiding and challenging children to realise their potential, and make meaning of what they see, hear and feel. This workshop is relevant to the QIAS Quality Areas 1, 2, 3 & 4. This workshop is being presented as a partnership program between Sutherland Shire Council and ECTARC.
CHCCHILD1C – Identify and respond to children and young people at risk of harm (CHILD PROTECTION) Under the NSW Children’s Services Regulation 2004, Authorised Supervisors are required to successfully complete a course in child protection. This Child Protection workshop presents the VETAB accredited and nationally recognised unit of competence ‘CHCCHILD1C Identify and Respond to Children and Young People at Risk of Harm’. Participants who attend the workshop and successfully complete an assessment task will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the unit which covers the requirements under the Regulation. This workshop is relevant to QIAS quality area 5; OHSCQA 7, 8; FDCQA 4, 6. Please note: ECTARC Training Officers are accredited child protection training and assessment facilitators having completed their training with the Child Protection Learning & Development Coordination Unit (CPLDCU). CHILD PROTECTION REFRESHER This Identify and Respond to children and young people at risk of harm workshop is a 4 hour refresher course for those people who have previously undertaken CHCCHILD1C Identify and respond to children and young people at risk of harm training and need to refresh their knowledge and skills. This workshop is aimed at participants who are currently working with children and responsible for reporting children at risk of harm. PLEASE NOTE: Participants should have completed the accredited one day training in ‘CHCCHILD1C Identify and respond to children and young people at risk of harm’ prior to attending this workshop. DEALING WITH FAMILIES UNDER STRESS This workshop will explore strategies to help child care staff support children and families going through some of the more stressful life experiences. Experiences such as breakdown in family relationships, death of a loved one or financial difficulties. Information will be provided on contact and referral agencies that offer support. Caterina Wilson-Harmer will be presenting the Dealing with Families under Stress workshop. Caterina has extensive experience in family support services and is also a qualified and experienced early childhood teacher. Her knowledge and experience in dealing with children and parents in stressful situations will be shared throughout the workshop. DEVELOPING PROTECTIVE BEHAVIOURS To assist workers in early childhood settings, this workshop has been designed to compliment child protection training. It will look at strategies for staff to help young children develop strong protective behaviours to keep them safe. Topics covered include:
